Rongelap is home to a pristine underwater environment as it is one of the few Marshalhese atolls left uninhabited for decades. Fish and coral diversity are high, and it is possible to find several healthy giant clams within the lagoon. For this reason, this atoll has been choosen for the implementation of long term monitoring and environmental impact studies.
