The whale shark, Rhincodon typus, is the largest fish on earth, reaching up to 12 meters and 36 tons. It is a gentle, slow-moving, filter-feeder that occurs in all tropical oceans. Whale sharks are mainly found in open sea and can live up to 70 years.
