Izu, the peninsula to the west of Tokyo, is large and mountainous. With countless coves, beaches and rocky outcrops, it is a convenient diving destination. The marine life is very diverse, partially due to the Kuroshio current, which brings fish and invertebrate larvae from warmer waters in the south.
