There are 28 species of anemonefish which naturally occur in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Their very specialized relationship with anemones is a hallmark of mutualistic behavior: the anemone provides a safe home while the anemonefish, unaffected by the anemone's stinging tentacles, feeds and cleans its host.
